The Discovery Islands are a group of about a dozen small islands tucked in along the Inside Passage between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia on Canada’s west coast. It’s a bit of a mouthful but that’s a concise way of describing paradise on Earth!
The commercial and community hub is centred on Quadra Island, population 2,700. Nearby Campbell River (pop. 36,000) offers most of the amenities and goods needed for comfort and enjoyment of rural life.
There really are few places as stunningly beautiful as the Discovery Islands. There is incredible, wild scenery in every direction, World-class adventure-recreation: kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, diving and within a few hours drive surfing, alpine climbing, backcountry skiing etc… There’s abundant wildlife in the ocean and nearby mountain forests. The Discovery Islands are on the frontier, at the edge of the Great Bear Rainforest with wilderness out the front door and a steady supply of craft beer out the back! Truly a photographer’s dream.
